Satwik Shekhar is presently working as a Legal Consultant (Assistant Professor) at the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL). In his capacity, Satwik provides legal assistance to the Govt. of India on international trade law and policy. Shekar’s current areas of focus include WTO law, trade regulation, electronic commerce, international investment law, FTA negotiations, unilateral measures and SEZs. Shekhar has been involved in multiple international and domestic policy formulations for the Govt. of India. Shekhar has contributed to India’s FTA negotiations with EAEU, EFTA Peru, Mauritius, UAE, UK and RCEP. At present, he is involved in FTA negotiations with the EU, Canada and Australia. Shekhar has played a key role in preparing India’s Draft E-Commerce Policy. Shekhar has undertaken research and study on the regulatory, operational and functional aspects of the Noida SEZ. Satwik was also involved in preparing India’s pre-hearing and post-hearing briefs for US GSP country review of India before the USITC’s Sub-committee on GSP. He is also a core member of the Government of India's Core Group on the WTO SPS Declaration and works on issues around standards, conformity assessment procedures in SPS and TBT and sustainable food systems. Satwik is in charge of CTIL's activities under Geneva-based Trade Lab Clinical Legal Education programme (with top law schools of India), the MOU with the Permanent Mission of India to the WTO and CTEI (The Geneva Graduate Institute, Switzerland) and the WTO Chairs Programme. Satwik Shekhar is a core member of the Trade Remedies Advisory Cell (TRAC) at CTIL to assist India's domestic industry in trade remedy applications and procedures. Satwik has previously worked in the New Delhi office of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. He holds an LL.M. in International Law with specialization in International Economic Laws from The Graduate Institute (IHEID), Geneva, Switzerland.
